Bacteria and other microorganisms
MICROORGANISMS:

For many people, the words germ, microbe and microorganism bring to mind a group of tiny creatures. That
doesn’t fit any of the categories in the old question, “is it animal, vegetable, living or nonliving?”

Microorganisms
They are minute living things that individually are too small to be seen with the naked eye.
The term microorganisms include bacteria, fungi (yeast and mold, protozoa’s, & microscopic algae) and also
include viruses.

-Microorganisms contribute in the balance of our life.

(1)        Marine and fresh water Microorganisms form the basis of the food chain in the oceans, lakes, & rivers.

(2)        Soil microbes help to break down wastes & incorporate nitrogen gas from the air into organic
compounds, thereby recycling chemical elements in the soil, water, and air.

(3)        Certain bacteria and algae play important roles in photo synthesis, food - and oxygen-generating
process that is critical to life on earth.

(4)        Human and (many animals) depend on the bacteria for the digestion and synthesis of some vitamins
that our bodies require, including some B vitamins for metabolism & vitamin K for blood clotting.
(5)        Microorganisms also have commercial applications.

(Used in the synthesis of such chemical products as acetone, organic acids, enzymes, alcohol’s and, many
drugs. also used in the food industry like vinegar, green olive, soy sauce etc.).
